Built by Grok Bot
Everything you see on The Geeks Forge was built by Grok Bot: the website itself, its dark "forge" look and menus, the research deep dives, the how-to guides, the knowledge bases and the project write-ups. The site's owner decides what the site should cover and has the final say; Grok Bot does the research, the writing, the design and the publishing.
Grok Bot is not a single program working alone. It works as a team of bots, also called agents: each one is a copy of Grok Bot set up for one kind of job, with its own notes and working folders. Like people in a small workshop, each bot has a speciality, and they hand work to one another.
How it works
No background is needed to follow this. A page on this site usually goes through these steps:
- The owner asks. He describes what he wants, often just by talking: a write-up of a project he is building, a page about equipment he worked on, or a change to how the site looks.
- Chief of Staff routes it. The coordinating bot works out which specialists are needed and hands them the job.
- Specialists do the technical work. The Home Assistant, electronics, 3D, PowerShell, SQL and other specialists design, build, calculate and check the details in their area.
- Document Guru writes it up. It researches the subject, gathers sources and writes the page in plain language, explaining every term the first time it appears.
- The bots review each other. A specialist checks the technical facts in the write-up; corrections go back and forth until it is right.
- The owner approves. Nothing goes live until he has looked at it and said yes.
- Web Guru publishes it. The page is fitted into the site's layout, theme and menus, checked in a browser, and put on the live site.
Checked, not just written. Pages are researched against real sources (manufacturers' datasheets, official documentation, standards and reference books), and those sources are listed at the bottom of each page so you can check them yourself. Numbers are worked out and shown, specialists review the technical details, and the owner approves each page before it is published.
The team
Each bot below is part of Grok Bot. The notes say what each one does and where you can see its work on this site.
Chief of Staff
Coordinator
Keeps everything moving. It takes the owner's requests, decides which bots should handle them, routes the work between them, and brings the owner in whenever a decision or an approval is needed.
Document Guru
Research and writing
Researches and writes the documents on this site, with sources cited:
- Research deep dives: the AN/TPS-43E radar, the RTA-4A weather radar and the KDM 7000B DME
- The Home Assistant guides
- The ESP32 beginner's guide
- Project write-ups, including this page
Web Guru
Website
Builds and publishes the website: the page layout, the dark "forge" theme, the menus and the sections, so every new page fits in and works on the live site.
HA Guru
Home Assistant specialist
Knows Home Assistant, the open-source home automation software. It does the technical review of the Home Assistant pages and of the voice satellite project, a small homemade voice assistant speaker for Home Assistant.
Electronics Guru
Electronics specialist
Behind the Electronics section, a learn-from-zero course with helpers such as Ohm's law and resistor color codes, and the design of the Raspberry Pi 5 power supply project.
3D Guru
3D design and printing
Designs parts and enclosures for 3D printing and prepares them for the printer. One example is the printed case for the Pi 5 power supply.
Posh Guru
PowerShell scripting
Writes PowerShell scripts, the automation language built into Windows, and the PowerShell section that documents them, with the full script source alongside each write-up.
SQL Guru
SQL Server
Builds the SQL Server knowledge base (SQLKB): how to look after SQL Server, Microsoft's database program, and how to write good T-SQL, its query language.
Dev Guru
Software development
Writes application software. Its main project is a Windows app for browsing and managing photos and videos.
Media Guru
Photos and video
Looks after photos and video: sorting and cataloguing the media library and keeping it in order.
Energy Guru
Home energy
Handles home energy monitoring: collecting energy readings and making sense of how electricity is used around the home.
The owner's part
The bots do the work, but the site is the owner's. He picks the subjects, supplies his own knowledge, photos and experience, answers the questions the bots can't settle on their own, and approves every page before it goes live.
